Emil Vikström
About me
Welcome to my corner of cyberspace! I'm Emil Vikström, a computer and web fantast (most would call me a geek) from Sweden. I enjoy hacking code to analyze data or setting up new services, or to play with my computers at home. I usually run Debian GNU/Linux because it's a really nice and stable operating system, adhering to sound values of freedom.
I'm currently studying for a degree in Computer Science at Uppsala University because I want to give people computer systems that will enhance their productivity and help them in their daily lives. A good computer program should be easy to use and understand, and most importantly have real value for the user.
I live in Upplands väsby outside Stockholm, Sweden with my awesome girlfriend Linda.
It may be interesting to know that I have Asperger syndrome, a neural development disorder which makes me function partly differently from most other people. I sometimes misunderstand irrational (re-)actions and feelings, and can have a hard time doing unstructured work. I've had the diagnosis since I was young so I have worked hard to learn my ways around the difficulties, and often try to plan things ahead to minimize distractions and problems. Most people are suprised when they hear this since I'm (in my opinion) more trained in this than others with Asperger. Don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested in how this works out for me!
Projects
I like to hack code, so of course I have some hobby projects. Here are some of my more developed ones (please note that I'm not a great designer):
- Code collection
- Various scripts and programs I've written.
- Electronic display frame
- I built my own digital photo frame for train times and similar.
- EreFredag.se
- The biggest "is it friday" site in Sweden, with enhanced font size and some interactive functionality.
Emil's technical expertise
Computer science studies, a few years of web hosting and sysadmin experience, but most of all a big interest for programming and web technology.
The main focus of my studies have been functional programming, database technology and data mining.
