Foundation Beyond Belief

I've become a member of the Foundation Beyond Belief, an organization where you donate $5 or more a month and you choose which non-religious charities your money goes to. There's different categories (education, peace and so on) in which they pick new charities each month, so you pick a percentage for each category.

There's also an interesting category called "Challenge the Gap", in which a religious, but progressive and non-dogmatic, project gets donations. Perfect if you think that some religious projects are actually doing some good!

Working at the Jamboree

The 22^nd World Scout Jamboree is currently held in Sweden, with 40000 participants. I'm working in the International Service Team giving out information to others in an info center.

K3b Still Best for Burn

K3b is still the best (GUI based) CD burning software. I usually burn using K3b since it usually Just Works, but I try other burning software once in a while to see if they have gotten up to speed (K3b does not fit so nicely into my Gnome desktop).

But I've struggled with Brasero since yesterday with strange, undefined errors. It doesn't seem to like my burner, or maybe it is the seven years old noname CD-Rs I'm trying to use? K3b didn't give any errors at all with the same hardware.

My digital frame

I've built my own digital frame for showing train times and similar useful info in the hall. The frame is built out of an Asus EeePC and a frame from Ikea.

This is why software patents is invalid in Sweden and other European countries. Such obvious algorithms shouldn't be possible to patent at all since it would destroy the whole software industry (in related news, Google is being sued over this patent).

Terror attacks are steadily decreasing, and continues to be only a small fraction of committed crimes. Interestingly enough, only one attack in 2009 was related to Islam, whereas four where right-wing and 40 left-wing terrorism. A whopping 237 attacks (80%) originated from separatist movements such as the ETA.
