At last! An automatic login script for the UpUnet-S web form! Put it in /etc/network/if-up.d/ to have it log you in to the network on connect.

The script can easily be tailored for other networks with web form login.

Due to the last weeks ISP downtime, I've moved my favorite site erefredag.se to Levonline. Their high-performing virtual servers (based on KVM and a really cool storage solution) are really good value.

I've also switched to Nginx on the Erefredag.se VPS. It's amazing how easy Nginx is to configure, and the performance are just outstanding. I'll probably switch on my home server soon as well.

This is why I don't like Microsoft. Their software development is often sloppy and they cut corners which makes things insecure. If you're using encrypted NTFS partitions, your login password (as well as all previous passwords) are stored as SHA-1 hashes without salt in a file.

Apparently, it's also possible to crack an NTFS encryption easily because they store the encryption key alongside the data.

The Swedish requirement to have at least 100 000 SEK in share capital in a private stock company will change.

Today the Swedish Parliament decided to decrease the requirements to 50 000 SEK as the minimum of share capital. This will make it easier for small companies to become stock companies (aktiebolag).

Shine Data AB, with Thomas Östman as CEO, is copying texts from other websites. The theory is that they do this for blackhat search engine optimization, but they will probably just end up being thrown out from the major search engines, like Google, all together.

Do not hire blackhat SEO consultants (sökmotoroptimerare). They will only give you trouble.

Readability

The web is full of web pages with unreadable text. Most sites use small font sizes, unreadable fonts and mismatched colors. All this can make it hard or unpleasant to surf the web.

Here is a really nifty bookmarklet that makes it easy to read even those pages by changing the style on the site to make it readable. You must try it!

AmEx password policy

American Express have these requirements for their customer password:

Contain 6 to 8 characters - at least one letter and one number (not case sensitive)
Contain no spaces or special characters (e.g., &, >, *, $, @)

The explanation for this is that short passwords with only letters are safer than long passwords with special characters.

This is of course bullshit, but even the large Swedish bank Swedbank have ridiculous password policies, so AmEx is not alone

State Annual Report 2008

I found this a while back when trying to calculate how much the car drivers pay for the roads. It's the annual report of the Swedish government 2008, with incomes and expenses clearly divided into categories. It also includes a list with state owned companies.

I looked for a version in english but couldn't find one. This one is in swedish.
